Fine Art Monoprints

3-Mounted for printing.JPG

Actually, it is. I've taught classes where kids have been able to make credible prints after a short period of instruction. However, to get really good at this type of printing, it takes a long period of disciplined practice and probably a couple of trash cans full of balled up prints.

After the print is made, only the best are finished. The eye is painted in and tiny glints are added to show reflected sunlight. My chop "Fish, Life" is affixed and the print is signed and dated.

First you start with a fish, a fish that has been dried and prepared for printing. Ink the fish with water soluble sumi ink, then lay rice paper over it, and rub the ink into the paper. Carefully remove the paper.

Seems simple, right?

The easiest way to purchase a School of Fish Prints work is to visit my studio in Hatfield, PA to pick out your favorite print. If you are unable to do that, please call so that we can discuss your preferences. I can then send you a few watermarked pics for you to select from. Really, coming to the studio is the best way, but I will do whatever works best for you.
